To earn a PPL in the UK, you’ll complete a combination of theoretical study, practical flight training, and assessments. Here’s what’s typically included:
- Flight Training
- Minimum Flight Hours: You’ll need to complete at least 45 hours of flight training.
- At least 25 hours must be dual instruction with an experienced instructor.
- At least 10 hours must be solo flight time, including 5 hours of solo cross-country navigation.
- You’ll learn essential skills, including aircraft handling, navigation, take-offs and landings, emergency procedures, and radio communication.
- Minimum Flight Hours: You’ll need to complete at least 45 hours of flight training.
- Ground School
- You’ll study the theoretical aspects of aviation, such as:
- Air law
- Meteorology

- Aircraft technical knowledge
- You must pass 9 written exams, which test your understanding of these topics.

- Medical Certification
